An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Convair B-36 Peacemaker strategic bomber in 1:144 scale from Roden. The package marked D/F/H/J covers the late variants of the machine, fitted with auxiliary jet engines alongside the piston ones. Even in the reduced 1:144 scale the result is an exceptionally large model with a giant wingspan: the B-36 had the greatest span of any combat aircraft ever.
The Convair B-36 Peacemaker was an American strategic bomber and the largest series-built piston aircraft in history. It served with Strategic Air Command in the early Cold War as an intercontinental carrier of nuclear weapons, able to reach a target and return without refueling. Its powerplant was unique: six Pratt & Whitney R-4360 piston radial engines in a pusher configuration (the propellers faced aft) and, on the later D/F/H/J versions, four jet engines as well. That combination of six turning, four burning gave the aircraft ten engines, more than any other production aircraft.
Count on a large build: the long wings and fuselage call for careful fitting and firm gluing with thin cement for plastic. Build the six engine nacelles with their pusher propellers and the jet engine blocks patiently. Most B-36 machines carried a natural metal finish, for which a good smooth base and metallic paints applied in varied shades to tell the panels apart are worth the effort. Pick out the panel lines with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
