A large and exceptionally detailed injection-molded plastic model of the German Tiger II (Sd.Kfz.182) heavy tank, known as the King Tiger, in the large 1:16 scale from the Trumpeter brand. It is a big kit with a high parts count that combines plastic with photo-etched metal and metal parts. The set is conceived as a 2 in 1 release - it makes it possible to build the tank either with the Henschel turret or with the earlier Porsche type turret. The model offers an elaborate hull interior divided into the driver's compartment, the fighting compartment and the engine and transmission compartments, and individually assembled track links complete it.
The Tiger II was a German heavy tank of the late Second World War, one of the most heavily armored and heaviest tanks put into series service in its day. It carried a powerful long-barreled 88 mm gun able to destroy Allied tanks at great distances. Its thick frontal armor made it hard to hurt from the front, but its great weight meant high fuel consumption and increased susceptibility to powertrain failures. It was produced with two types of turret - the earlier (Porsche) and the later, more widespread Henschel turret.
This is an extensive build suited to experienced modelers. Glue the plastic parts with modeling cement for plastic and the photo-etched and metal parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint and shade the hull interior and the running gear completely before you close the hull up. Apply a primer before painting and lay on thin coats with an airbrush; use washes and dust and mud pigments for realistic weathering. Decide in advance whether you want the Henschel or the Porsche turret.
