The tires are cast as weighted: they have a contact patch and a slightly bulged sidewall, as if the weight of the machine were standing on them. The set represents the early form of the wheels. It is not an aircraft kit or a part of one - it is a replacement part with which the wheels from the original kit are exchanged.
The Saab JAS 39 Gripen is a Swedish single-engine multirole combat aircraft. The abbreviation in the designation sums up the three roles it was built for from the start: jakt, attack and spaning, that is, fighter, ground attack and reconnaissance in one machine. Behind that lay a hard Swedish requirement: the aircraft was to take off and land on closed public roads and be serviceable by a small team with a minimum of equipment. It is exactly this quality that loads the Gripen's landing gear heavily - and it is also the reason why the shape of the tire stands out so clearly in period photographs of a machine at rest.
