The weapon worked up in this set is among the longest-serving machine guns in the world. Royal Model offers it as a separate accessory in 1:35 scale with which the simplified part from the basic box is replaced.
The design in 12.7 mm caliber was created at the close of the First World War as an answer to the need for a weapon effective against aircraft and against lightly armored targets. The version with the heavy barrel settled down in the 1930s and since then it has changed only in small details. It appeared on the commander's cupolas of tanks, on the ring mounts of trucks, on patrol boats, in aircraft versions and on a tripod with the infantry. The ammunition belt was fed from the side out of a box clipped to the mount, and the crew had to guide it so that it would not twist. It is exactly the belt, the box and the perforated barrel jacket that tend to be simplified most on plastic moldings, so swapping the weapon for a finely executed accessory is among the most visible improvements to a whole model.
Paint the weapon dark, but never black. Very dark gray with a hint of a blue tint is better, and a metallic sheen on the edges comes out well over it. Bring the cooling jacket out with a dry brush and set the grips apart in a warmer tone.
The accessory is supplied without paint and without mounting material.
