About product

The BM-13-16 on the G7107 chassis with a Soviet crew in 1:35 scale

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Ukrainian brand ICM in 1:35 scale. The subject is the Soviet BM-13-16 rocket launcher carried on a three-axle truck chassis with the designation G7107, an American type delivered to the Soviet Union under Allied aid. According to the name, the package contains figures of the Soviet crew as well. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, the parts are on sprues.

The real subject

The BM-13 was a salvo rocket launcher with a movable frame of guide rails mounted on a truck chassis. The designation -16 refers to the configuration with sixteen guide rails for unguided rockets of 132 millimeter caliber. The system built on simplicity: mobility and a quick salvo were more important than the accuracy of an individual round, and that is precisely why the launchers were mounted on ordinary truck chassis. The three-axle G7107 chassis was among the types used most often for this task, as it had enough load capacity and cross-country ability and was at that time available in larger numbers.

Building and painting tips

Build the chassis and the frame and let them cure, and only then deal with the launcher assembly itself. The guide rails are long and slender, so glue them on a flat surface and watch that they stay parallel to one another, as the slightest twist is visible on a finished model. Paint the cab and the interior before closing it up. Glue with a thin cement for plastic. After a primer, spray the base shade with an airbrush, play the areas out in shade and lighten the edges. Keep the weathering in proportion to the theme: a wash into the seams of the frame, wear on the steps and treads and dust or mud pigments from the wheels upward. Build and paint the figures separately, place them only on a finished model and try them dry beforehand.

Who the model is for

  • builders of military vehicles in 1:35 scale with experience of slender parts
  • anyone interested in a combination of a truck chassis and carried armament
  • creators of dioramas who want to complete a model with figures right away

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
