Photo-etched protective grilles over the engine compartment of the Panther Ausf. G tank in 1:35 scale. They replace solid plastic parts that cannot be seen through.

An accessory in photo-etched metal in 1:35 scale for the Panther tank in the Ausf. G version. It replaces the grilles that cover the openings on the rear deck above the engine compartment.
On the real vehicle the openings for drawing in and expelling air are covered with a fine mesh. A molded part can only suggest it as a solid surface with an engraved grid, so the deck looks blanked off and that is immediately visible from above. A photo-etched grille really is see-through, a shadow falls away beneath it and the rear of the tank gains depth at once. It is one of the few accessories that even a viewer who has never built a Panther will notice.
Sand the original plastic grille down flat, so that the metal has something to sit on, and paint the surface beneath it dark before you fit the grille. Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface and level the remains of the tabs with a fine file. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a pin around the edge, as a drop on the mesh floods the holes and they cannot be saved. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and apply a primer meant for metal. Spray the paint in thin coats and rather from the side than straight down.
The package contains photo-etched parts. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
