An injection-molded plastic kit of an American truck from the Second World War in 1:35 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, so it is a classic kit for a modeler, not a finished model.
The Chevrolet G7107 belonged to the family of light trucks of the G-506 series with a payload of about 1.5 tons and 4x4 all-wheel drive. The combination of a closed cab, a simple six-cylinder engine and an open cargo bed made it one of the most widespread means of transport in the American army. Trucks of this type reached other Allied armies in large numbers as part of materiel deliveries, so they turn up in photographs from practically every theater. That versatility is exactly what makes it a rewarding subject for dioramas: it will carry a load, a towed gun or figures.
Assemble and paint the chassis and the drivetrain before you set the cargo bed on top, because the frame is hard to reach afterward. Glue the plastic parts with a thin cement for polystyrene, which wicks into the seam by capillary action. Lay on a filler primer before painting, so that the surface evens out after the seams have been sanded. The cab and the cargo bed have large flat areas on which toning of the color and a light lightening of the panel centers come into their own. For weathering, a brown wash into the engraved lines and dry pigments for mud and dust effects around the wheels, the fenders and the wheel arches work well. Keep the tires more toward gray than black, because pure black rubber looks unnatural on a model.
