The set builds the large-capacity bin for municipal waste of the kind that stands by the sidewalk in every European city. The manufacturer supplies it as a combination of white metal, resin and photo-etched sheet, and encloses a decal sheet. The white metal usually carries the load-bearing parts, while the photo-etch carries the thin elements that would come out coarse in a casting. The decals make it possible to add the lettering of a waste collection company or warning markings.
A scene with vehicles easily slips into dull cleanliness. A bin by a wall, tipped over and shot through or, on the contrary, overflowing, gives a scene a civilian dimension and hints to the viewer whether the action is taking place in a living city or in an emptied quarter. At the same time it is a rewarding element for the foreground, because it has a clear shape that leads the eye.
Parts in white metal and in resin are both joined with cyanoacrylate glue. It is enough to sand the metal surfaces, and on resin wash off the mold release residue before joining. Apply the primer thinly, so that the texture of the sheet is not lost. A container rarely looks new: after the base shade add scuffed places, the traces of impacts and runs of rust streaming down from the edges. Leave the lid slightly open and the scene gains depth at once.
The castings come without paint; you will find neither coating materials nor glue in the box.
