A turned metal barrel of 20 mm caliber, L/56, for the KwK 38 cannon in 1:35 scale from Aber. A replacement for the plastic barrel of the automatic cannon of German light vehicles.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber. It replaces the plastic barrel of the automatic cannon of 20 mm caliber, designated 2 cm KwK 38, on models of German light tanks and armored cars. It is not a vehicle model but a detail accessory that gives a thin barrel the correct diameter and a hollow muzzle.
The 2 cm KwK 38 automatic cannon was the standard armament of German light vehicles. It powered the turrets of the Pz.Kpfw. II light tanks and of a range of reconnaissance armored cars and reconnaissance vehicles, and it was used against lightly armored targets, personnel and low-flying aircraft. It is precisely the thin, long barrel that is one of the most troublesome parts in injection-molded plastic, because it is hard to drill and tends to be noticeably oversized.
Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the shield or the cradle as possible and open the hole out so that the metal part slides in without any strain. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) on a degreased surface. Take the metal over with a primer for metals, otherwise the paint rubs off when the model is handled. A thin barrel will take only a minimum of weathering if it is not to look coarse.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
