The black uniform of tank crews is recognizable at once, and it is worn by a figure of a German tanker in 1:35 size from the Royal Model workshop. It belongs with a model of an armored vehicle and in a display case.
Responsibility details are not available.
The crews of armored vehicles hold a privileged place in modeling, because their kit is unmistakable and immediately legible in a scene. Royal Model has this figure in its range on its own, with no tie to a particular kit, and according to the name it represents a German tanker from the time of the Second World War. The size matches ordinary military vehicles, so matching it with a model of a vehicle causes no trouble.
A special short blouse and trousers in a black version were introduced for tank crews, complemented by a black field cap. The short cut was meant to make movement easier in a cramped space and to reduce the risk of catching on the interior fittings of the vehicle. The crews of self-propelled guns wore similar clothing in a gray version, and later work overalls of coarser cloth appeared as well. According to the year and the unit the patches, the rank markings and the headgear all differed, so the choice of subject will also affect what you paint.
Black cloth looks like a flat silhouette with no shape once black paint has been applied. The proven approach starts with dark gray or gray-blue, goes on with brightening the edges and the folds, and true black comes only into the deepest places. Blue-gray highlights look more natural than purely gray ones, because the eye reads them as a reflection of the sky. Leave the patches and buttons contrasting, otherwise they will be lost in the dark area.
The set does not contain paints or glue and the figure is without a surface finish.
