Plastic kit of the le.gl.Einheits-Pkw light off-road passenger car in the Kfz.1 form in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. The set is based on new molds and offers a high parts count for such a small vehicle, including an intricate chassis and interior fittings. The finished model is short, a little over eleven centimeters, but that only makes careful work with detail and weathering show up more.
The light standardized off-road passenger car appeared in the mid-1930s as an attempt to unify the German army's vehicle fleet on a common chassis. It was built above all by the Stoewer works, and in the war years production spread to other factories as well. The Kfz.1 form was a four-seat passenger vehicle for liaison and escort work. The cars had all-wheel drive, and the early series also had a steerable rear axle, which was later dropped as too complex and unreliable. On the order of more than ten thousand were built in all, and they served on practically every front until simpler cars based on civilian chassis replaced them.
Build the chassis in one sequence and make sure all four wheels sit on a flat plane, since on a vehicle this small every deviation shows. Paint and pick out the interior and the instrument panel before you fit the seats and the body, because an open car is visible inside. Mask the windshield glass with tape. Early cars carried a dark gray finish, and from 1943 the change was to dark yellow and camouflage patterns. Apply dust and mud with pigments from the wheels upward, and do the fine chipping on the edges of the fenders and the running boards with a brush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
