Injection-molded plastic kit of the Russian T-80UM-1 main battle tank in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The box holds an extensive set of plastic sprues completed by photo-etched parts and individual link tracks, so the model offers a high level of detail even without extra accessories. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The T-80 was a Soviet main battle tank and the first series-built machine of its class to rely on gas turbine propulsion. The T-80UM-1 version is a modernization demonstrator from the second half of the 1990s, known under the name Bars. Its main recognition feature is the Arena active protection system with a ring sensor panel on the turret, completed by modernized fire control equipment. The machine stayed at the demonstration stage, but thanks to the unmistakable silhouette of its turret it is a rewarding subject.
The most demanding part is the running gear and the individual link tracks – it pays to glue these in longer runs on a flat surface and to let them hang while still half set, so that they keep a natural sag. Finish the wheels, the tracks and the lower hull before you close it up and fit the fenders. Degrease the photo-etched parts and coat them with a primer. Spray the camouflage with an airbrush and use a thicker coat of paint or a texture product on the rough surfaces of the turret. Build the weathering up in layers: a dark wash in the engraved lines, lightened surfaces, worn edges and finally pigments for the mud effects of the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
