The Sd.Kfz. 251 was a German half-track armored personnel carrier which during the Second World War carried infantry where a foot unit could not get in time on its own. The hull is open at the top, so the fighting compartment can be seen into and the men could jump out of it quickly. The C and D versions differ from each other in the shape of the hull: the later form got a simplified structure with a sloping rear and with equipment bins built into the sides, because the vehicle had to be built faster and with less labor.

With an open vehicle it is exactly that which is constantly on show, and yet it is treated most economically in kits. Metal plates give the walls the crisp edges and the articulation that thin sheet has, and they create the background against which the interior equipment, the benches and the load only then come out.
The plates are large parts, so it pays to try each one dry first and only then glue it; the hulls of individual kits differ in dimensions and a pre-bent edge is hard to straighten afterward. Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp blade, make the bends along the marked scores in a bending tool or between the flat jaws of a pair of pliers, and glue with cyanoacrylate glue in small drops. Paint the interior before you close the hull up, otherwise you will not reach the corners. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a base color.
For modelers who build the Sd.Kfz. 251 with the interior exposed and want the fighting compartment worked out as well as the outside. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
