Unterscharführer was a non-commissioned rank, that is a squad or crew leader who moved among the men and in the field usually carried the same load as they did. The MP 40 submachine gun belonged to his equipment: a weapon with a metal stock folding under the barrel, with a long straight magazine and with no wooden parts, it was meant precisely for squad leaders, vehicle crews and paratroopers, who wanted a short weapon for a confined space.
The package holds a figure of a soldier with a submachine gun in 1:35 scale, that is in the size matching ordinary kits of military equipment. It is conceived as an accessory to a model of a vehicle or for a diorama. How many parts it is made up of and how it is assembled is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut any excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part, sand the remainder back and fill the seams at the shoulders and the waist with putty, so that the clothing runs on. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts. Before painting, wash the figure, degrease it and seal it with a base color. Build the skin from several thin layers and leave the uniform rather faded and dusty than saturated. Paint the weapon separately: a dark metal base, polished edges where it rubs against the equipment, and a slightly different tone for the magazine will set it apart from the body of the figure. Finally set the figure so that it leans against the vehicle or touches the ground.
The figure suits dioramas and display cases with German equipment of the Second World War where a human figure giving the scene its scale is missing. The model of the vehicle, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
