This kit from ICM represents one of the factory versions of the American Studebaker US6 truck. The U5 designation in the name refers to one particular form of the vehicle; the manufacturer gives its detailed specification on the box.
The Studebaker US6 was a three-axle truck with a payload of two and a half tons, built in large numbers and one of the symbols of Lend-Lease deliveries. Most of the vehicles went to the Red Army, where they carried ammunition, fuel and soldiers and served as the chassis for rocket launchers. The individual forms differed in the cab, the wheelbase, the body and whether a winch was fitted, so the same type turns up in quite different guises.
Start with the frame, the axles and the exhaust, because once the body is seated you can no longer reach them. Fit the wheels only after the chassis has been painted; you will save yourself lengthy masking of the tires. The subject positively asks for mud and dust: apply the pigments from the wheel arches upward and build them up gradually, so that the transition is smooth. Set the canvas tarpaulin apart with a more matte shade than the metal surfaces.
