Sturmtiger – interior equipment of the superstructure, 1:35. The brand Royal Model; it aims at builds where the roof hatch stays open.
Responsibility details are not available.
The fighting compartment of the Sturmtiger was largely filled with ammunition and handling equipment, so once the hatch is open a bare model looks empty. This set from the brand Royal Model concentrates on exactly that: the inside of the armored superstructure.
A 380 mm round weighed around two tons, so the crew could not lift it by hand. A rotating crane therefore stood at the rear of the superstructure and there was a hatch in the roof through which the ammunition was lowered inside. Inside the compartment there were racks for the rounds on both sides of the weapon and the equipment that carried a round into the barrel. The whole cycle took long minutes, so the vehicle fired slowly and relied on a single hit being enough. It was cramped, oily and full of sharp edges in there, which is exactly what makes an open model interesting.
The order is crucial: the floor and the walls first, then the racks and the ammunition last. Paint everything before you close the superstructure. A lighter tone on the interior surfaces will help legibility, a dark wash belongs in the corners and dust with scuffing from boots on the floor. Leave the hatch open and light the scene from the side, otherwise the work will be lost in shadow.
Neither the vehicle nor paints are part of the delivery.
