An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Los Angeles class nuclear attack submarine in 1:350 scale from Hobby Boss. The kit is laid out as a 3 in 1: from it you can build the early 688 version, the VLS version with vertical launch tubes in the bow, or the updated 688I version. It offers a split full hull with engraved detail, a conning tower with optional periscopes and masts, photo-etched parts and a stand with a nameplate; decals for several boats of the class are enclosed.
The Los Angeles class forms the backbone of the American submarine fleet and is the most numerous class of nuclear submarines in the world. Attack submarines (SSN) served to hunt enemy submarines and surface ships and to protect task forces. The later 688I boats are quieter and carry a more modern combat system; the VLS version added vertical tubes for Tomahawk cruise missiles.
Before gluing, choose one of the three versions according to the instructions; they differ in the upper part of the hull, in the conning tower and in the bow. The submarine can be finished as a full hull on the stand or as a waterline model. Fit the hull halves dry and sand the joint down. Spray the hull matte black, set the deck apart and unify the surface with a fine wash; glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
