The Douglas DC-3 is an all-metal low-wing monoplane with a pair of radial engines that changed the face of civil air transport from the middle of the 1930s and, in military form, became one of the most widespread transport aircraft ever. The abbreviation CNAC belongs to the China National Aviation Corporation, a Chinese-American carrier whose crews flew over the eastern spur of the Himalayas during the Second World War. That route was nicknamed the Hump and meant flights at great altitude, in icy weather and without reliable navigation. It was exactly this service that gave the type its reputation as a machine that can take extraordinary punishment.
With a large airliner it pays to work in sections: the interior and the cockpit first, then closing the fuselage and finally the wings and the engine nacelles. Fill the long seams on the fuselage with putty and sand them back gradually, because every unevenness shows on a smooth side. Metallic and gloss surfaces need a perfect base, a dark primer and spraying in thin coats. Finish the propellers and the engines separately and fit them at the very end, so that they are not damaged in handling. Apply the large decals over gloss varnish and use a decal softener.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
