The set of wheels 1:48 F-86A Sabre Weighted wheels set type 1 from Clear Prop Models brings tires with the flattened footprint that arises under the weight of a standing aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
A weighted version means that the tire has a flattened contact area at the bottom, exactly as rubber behaves under the weight of a standing machine. A model on smooth cylindrical wheels, by contrast, looks as though it were floating above its base. The set is listed as type 1 and a sister variant type 2 exists for it; the brand also offers an unweighted version for the same aircraft, so when ordering watch which of them you want.
The squadrons armed with the F-86A type operated during the Korean War from forward bases south of the front, where the surfaces were strengthened with steel matting and where in the dry months the ever-present dust rose. There the landing gear of a jet fighter put up with considerably harder treatment than on home concrete runways, and the traces of that are clearly perceptible in period photographs. That is exactly why with models of Korean machines it pays to give the wheels more attention than usual.
Avoid pure black; worn rubber is rather dark gray, faded on the sidewalls. Set the hub apart by masking or with a careful brush, and lay a very fine breath of dust on the contact area, which optically settles the wheel onto the ground.
The package is without paints and without the kit itself.
