The engine set 1:48 Gloster E28/39 Pioneer engine set from Clear Prop Models opens up the powerplant of the first British jet aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set concentrates on the engine section of a historically exceptional machine and is intended for builders who want to show more than just the outer shape of the fuselage. Clear Prop Models issues it as a standalone refinement; the aircraft as such is not in the box. Given that the jet unit is in fact the main historical attraction of this type, this set is among the most interesting accessories that can be obtained for the model.
The Gloster E.28/39, nicknamed Pioneer, first took to the air on 15 May 1941 from the Cranwell airfield and became the first British aircraft with jet propulsion. It carried a centrifugal-flow turbine designed by Frank Whittle, which became the forerunner of a whole generation of postwar engines. Two prototypes were built; the single surviving example is today among the most valuable exhibits of British aviation history. The machine itself never fought, its task was to prove that the idea of jet propulsion works.
An exposed powerplant lives off the contrast of metal shades. It proves worthwhile to work with several related tones of metal rather than with one, and to unify the transitions with a weak dark shade in the recesses. Heat discoloration around the exhaust section can be suggested with a very thin coat of brown and blue-violet.
The box contains neither paints nor the base aircraft.
