About product

LaGG-3 series 1-4 1:48 (ICM)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet LaGG-3 fighter of the early production series 1 to 4 in 1:48 scale from ICM. The kit offers finely engraved surface detail, a well broken-down cockpit with a clear instrument panel part, closed landing gear bays and a clear two-piece canopy. Decals for several machines are in the box.

The real subject

The LaGG-3 belonged to the new generation of Soviet fighters designed just before the Second World War by the team of Lavochkin, Gorbunov and Gudkov. A peculiarity of the aircraft was its largely wooden structure of laminated and glued plywood, thanks to which it saved metals that were in short supply. The early series 1 to 4 were deployed from 1941 and fought, for example, in the defense of Leningrad and on the northern sector of the front.

Building and painting tips

Use liquid cement for plastic and build in subassemblies. Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage. Lay down primer and apply the paints with an airbrush. The wooden structure of the subject invites a finish with fine transitions and restrained wear on the leading edges. Protect the glazing with masks.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Soviet fighter aviation of the Second World War in 1:48 scale
  • Fans of the less usual wooden fighters
  • Modelers interested in the early battlefields of the Eastern Front
  • Slightly advanced builders who will appreciate engraved detail

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
