A plastic kit of the first jet fighter to see combat, the Messerschmitt Me 262, in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. It is an injection-molded model in gray plastic with engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit, a clear canopy and jet engines under the wings. The boxing represents the single-seat A-1b version, on which rails with unguided R4M rockets for destroying bombers are fitted under the wings.
The Me 262 was the first jet fighter committed to combat and its speed considerably exceeded that of its piston-engined rivals. It was powered by a pair of jet engines in nacelles under the wings, and its basic armament consisted of cannon in the nose. The A-1b version added a salvo of unguided R4M rockets to the armament, with which it attacked close formations of Allied bombers from the side. It entered the war only in its closing stage.
Assemble and paint the cockpit before the fuselage is closed; it tends to be advisable to add weight in the nose so that the model sits on its nosewheel landing gear. Glue the parts with a thin cement for plastic and sand the joints. Late-war camouflage with mottling is best managed with an airbrush; a final matte clear coat evens the surface out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
