Trumpeter 1:48 MiG-19PM Farmer-E, a plastic kit of the Soviet supersonic fighter; the PM version was the missile-armed one (no cannons, guided missiles only).
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet fighter MiG-19PM in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. The PM version (NATO code Farmer-E) is the missile-armed one: unlike the gun versions it had no barrel armament and relied entirely on guided air-to-air missiles, supplemented by a radar for combat in poor visibility as well. The kit offers a detailed cockpit, the landing gear bays, clear canopy glazing, photo-etched parts and external stores with missiles.
The MiG-19 was the first Soviet production supersonic fighter and one of the first genuinely supersonic frontline fighters anywhere. It was powered by a pair of jet engines and had a swept wing, thanks to which it exceeded the speed of sound in level flight. The PM version was the interceptor and missile build fitted with a radar and guided missiles instead of cannons, a concept that in its day represented the transition from gun fighters to missile armament. The type served with the Soviet Air Force and with a number of allied countries.
The model is a tail-sitter: put weight in the nose before you close the fuselage and the cockpit, so that the model stands on its nose gear and does not sit on its tail; finish and paint the cockpit while you are at it, because after gluing it is harder to reach. The engines are not fully modeled, but the nozzle ends are worth blackening deep inside. Protect the glazing with masks and glue it with canopy cement, which does not fog. Use thin cement on the plastic and spray the surfaces with an airbrush over a primer; paint the guided missiles separately and fit them last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
