A plastic kit of the two-seat MiG-21UM jet trainer fighter in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. It is an injection-molded model in gray plastic with finely engraved panel lines, a detailed tandem cockpit and clear parts for both canopies. The model captures the trainer version of one of the most widely used supersonic fighters in the world.
The MiG-21 was among the most numerously built supersonic fighters and served in dozens of countries. The UM trainer version had two seats one behind the other and a second canopy for the instructor; it remained combat capable and was used for converting pilots onto the type. It was notable for a slim fuselage with a circular nose air intake and a delta wing, and it was among the types that spread across the whole world and served for many decades in a number of countries.
Assemble and paint the tandem cockpit before the fuselage is closed; it tends to be advisable to add weight in the nose because of the nosewheel landing gear. Glue the parts with a thin plastic cement and sand the joints. Metallic and camouflage finishes are best managed with an airbrush; washes will pick out the panels and a matte clear coat will even the surface out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
