This set brings an accurately turned metal barrel of the Soviet 122 mm D-25T tank gun for the IS-2 heavy tank in 1:48 scale. The maker is the Polish brand Aber, which specializes in metal barrels and etched accessories. It is not a model of the tank but a detail accessory that replaces the plastic barrel from the box.
A turned metal gun barrel has a perfectly circular section compared with a plastic one, a crisply rendered muzzle and detail, and it needs no laborious cleaning up of a parting plane. The D-25T gun was the main weapon of the IS-2 tank, one of the most powerful Soviet heavy tanks of the Second World War. The result is a markedly truer and more robust barrel.
Degrease the metal barrel before gluing and bond it with super glue (cyanoacrylate); for painting use a good primer suitable for metal. Take care to align the barrel correctly with the mantlet and the turret. Any etched parts in the set are glued with contact adhesive.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base model are not included in the package.
