A modern injection-molded plastic kit of the American prototype carrier-borne attack aircraft XA2D-1 Skyshark in 1:48 scale. It is a recent mold in the Advanced version, which besides the plastic also contains photo-etched parts, small resin accessories, painting masks and decal sheets with several marking options. The set offers a richly detailed surface and a detailed cockpit.
The Skyshark was designed as a carrier-borne attack aircraft with turboprop power and a coaxial pair of contra-rotating propellers. It came about in the postwar period as an attempt at a powerful ground-attack machine for the Navy, but the program was dogged by trouble with the powerplant and the aircraft never reached series production. Only a few prototypes were built, which makes it an interesting and rarely modeled subject.
Given the number of parts and the multimedia content, the build suits more experienced modelers. Glue the plastic with a thin cement and the photo-etched and resin parts with cyanoacrylate glue. The masks included make painting the glazing easier. Before the final shades go on, use a surfacer, and give the areas under the decals a gloss coat with a clear compatible with the paint you have used.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
