The kit of the Arado Ar 66 in 1:72 scale from the RS models brand captures one of the less common types that appear in kit form only rarely. The model is intended to be assembled and painted; you will not find glue or paints in the box. The letter C in the designation refers to a specific production version, which you should verify against the enclosed instructions before choosing a color scheme.
The Arado Ar 66 was a German two-seat training biplane of the first half of the 1930s. In design it was a classic solution of the day: a mixed frame with fabric covering, a fixed undercarriage with a tailskid, two open cockpits one behind the other, and an air-cooled inverted inline engine with a two-blade propeller. The type served mainly for the basic training of pilots and was produced in several versions, among them one on floats. Thanks to the span of both wings and the bracing wires the model is rewarding to build, but at the same time more demanding of precision.
With a biplane, geometry decides. Glue the upper wing on only after the struts have dried and check the angles as you go against templates or at least by eye from the front. It helps to stand the model on a flat surface and to use supports of modeling clay. We recommend dry fits of every part, as with models from smaller production runs the parts often need light sanding. The fabric covering comes out well if you choose a matte varnish and a fine wash into the engraved panel lines. Tension the bracing wires of fine filament only at the very end, after the decals and the coat of varnish over them.
