An injection-molded plastic kit of the Vought F4U-1 Corsair carrier fighter in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Smer. It is a classic model built on older, simpler tooling - the package consists of plastic parts, decals and instructions. The model captures the typical silhouette of the Corsair well, above all its cranked inverted gull wing. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package.
The Vought F4U Corsair was an American single-seat carrier fighter of the Second World War. The F4U-1 version was powered by a powerful radial engine with a large propeller, on account of which the designers chose the inverted gull wing - it allowed a shorter and stronger landing gear. The Corsair made its name in the fighting in the Pacific, where it served with the Navy and the Marines and ranked among the most successful fighters of its period.
With older tooling it pays to dry-fit the parts first and to clean up the mold parting lines and the ejector marks. Glue with liquid cement for plastic, and fill and sand the seams if needed. Apply a primer before painting and ideally spray the colors with an airbrush. It is a good idea to paint the cockpit and the landing gear bays before the fuselage is closed.
