An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Sd.Kfz.9 (18t) heavy half-track tractor, nicknamed FAMO, including the Sd.Ah.116 tank transporter trailer, in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The set contains both one-piece flexible tracks and individual track links to be assembled, plus a length of cable for the trailer. The Sd.Kfz.9 was the heaviest German half-track tractor of the Second World War. It was powered by a twelve-cylinder Maybach HL 108 engine of around 270 horsepower. It served to recover and tow damaged vehicles away from the front; combined with the Sd.Ah.116 trailer it could carry tanks of the class of around 22 tons, the Pz.Kpfw.III and Pz.Kpfw.IV for example. By the end of the war over two and a half thousand of these eighteen-ton tractors had been built.
Given the small 1:72 scale, work with the fine parts carefully and with tweezers. Assemble and paint the running gear and the tracks before finishing the hull. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. German vehicles carried a gray or a dark yellow base with camouflage over it; after the base coat bring out the detail with a wash and add dust effects with pigments, as both the tractor and the trailer take marks of use well.
