This item is not a model or a kit — it is a set of replacement main landing gear wheels for models of the Soviet Lavochkin La-5 fighter in its early version, 1:72 scale. Resin castings have finer detail on the tread and the sidewalls than injection molded plastic and have no parting seam from the mold, which on plastic wheels has to be sanded away laboriously. The wheels are also usually modeled with flattening at the contact patch, so that once seated on the landing gear the model looks as though its own weight were really resting on them. Clear Prop Models is a Ukrainian manufacturer that, besides kits, issues an extensive range of accessories.
The Lavochkin La-5 was a Soviet single-engine fighter of the Second World War period. It came about by reworking the preceding LaGG-3 type, on which the liquid-cooled V12 engine was replaced by a more powerful air-cooled radial. The structure stayed largely wooden with metal elements, which matched the possibilities of Soviet industry at the time. The early production machines differed from the later ones above all in the execution of the rear fuselage behind the cockpit.
First wash the resin parts with warm water and a little dish soap — there tend to be residues of release agent on the surface, on which the paint would not hold. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers; resin is brittle and could crack. Sand the cut down and use protection for your airways while sanding, because resin dust should not be breathed in. They are glued exclusively with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on resin. A primer is advisable before painting. Do not paint the tires pure black; a dark gray with a sooty cast looks more realistic in a small scale.
This is a detail accessory for modelers, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
