The LaGG-3 is a Soviet fighter aircraft of the early Second World War. Its airframe was largely wooden, which was meant to save metals that were in short supply, and the machine therefore turned out heavier than its designers intended. It was powered by a liquid-cooled Klimov M-105 V12. The LaGG-3 was built in many production batches, which differed in armament, in the shape of the canopy and in the effort to reduce weight, so individual machines do not look the same.
This is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale, the most widespread size for aircraft. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The instructions supplied by the manufacturer give the extent of the parts, the form of the cockpit and the marking options.
Before gluing, remove the excess material and the traces of manufacture from the parts, sand the mating surfaces and dry fit the fuselage with the wing. In a small scale it pays to spend the time above all on the fuselage joints and the leading edge of the wing, because any imperfection shows once the finish is on. Glue the clear parts only after the cockpit has been painted, and mask them in advance. Soviet machines are rewarding to shade: lay the base tones down in several thin coats and concentrate the wear around the wing root and the panels that were handled often.
Paints, glue and filler are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
