A masking set for painting a model of the armored M1114 HMMWV vehicle with Frag Kit 5 armor and a GPK turret, 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The M1114 is the armored version of the HMMWV off-road vehicle, the machine that replaced light off-road cars and light trucks in the US Army. Against the basic form it received an armored cab with thicker glazing and carried a considerably higher weight. Experience from operations led to further up-armoring: the Frag Kit 5 added protection to the sides against fragments, and the GPK enclosed the gunner's station on top with an armored parapet, so that the weapon crew did not stand in an open ring. The result is an angular, asymmetrically built-up machine that differs from its civilian-looking predecessor at first glance.
Masks cut to the shape of the surfaces of the model, so that cutting tape to a ruler falls away. In 1:72 scale this is work few people can do accurately by hand, and yet it is precisely a crisp transition of color that everyone notices first on a finished model.
Apply the masks only to a surface prepared for painting and press the edges down properly, or the paint will run under them. Spray in thin coats and rather twice over, because a heavy coat will create a step at the edge. Take the mask off once the paint has dried and by pulling at an angle to the surface, not straight up. Any remaining adhesive can be wiped away with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol.
For modelers of military vehicles who want clean edges without cutting tape by hand. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
