In the small scales resin wheels are among the accessories with the best ratio of effort to result. This set by Clear Prop Models is aimed at the Mirage 2000 fighter in 1:72 scale and replaces the wheels supplied in the base kit. The casting has no parting line across the tread, so the most tiresome cleanup of all falls away. The aircraft model itself is not part of the package.
The Mirage 2000 is a French single-engine combat aircraft with a delta wing, which followed on from the older Mirage III family but put it on an entirely new footing – artificial stability and fly-by-wire controls. A delta wing without horizontal tail surfaces gives the aircraft its characteristic silhouette and a high rate of climb. Besides the French Air Force it was taken into service by a whole range of export users in Europe, Asia and South America, and the machine saw use in several real conflicts.
Wash the castings in water with detergent and let them dry. Cut the casting block away on the contact surface of the tire and true that surface on abrasive paper laid on glass, so that the model stands firmly. Painting is easier before gluing: first the whole wheel in dark gray, then, once it has dried, mask the tire and spray the hub. Wheels are attached to the landing gear leg with super glue.
The package holds an accessory for a model under construction; the aircraft kit has to be obtained separately.
