A plastic kit of the BMW R 18 Classic motorcycle in the large 1:9 scale from Meng. It is an officially licensed model whose engineering is based on a 3D scan of the real machine. Besides injection-molded plastic parts the set contains metal components, photo-etched parts, rubber tires and waterslide decals. The model is assembled and painted, which yields a faithful scaled-down version of this substantial Bavarian motorcycle.
The BMW R 18 is a modern nostalgic cruiser whose appearance refers back to design features of the marque from the 1930s. It is powered by a massive air-cooled boxer twin of over 1800 cc, which is at the same time the load-bearing visual centerpiece of the whole motorcycle. The Classic version adds a windshield, panniers and other fittings in the spirit of classic touring.
First assemble the frame and the engine, which dominates this model. The chrome and painted surfaces come into their own with a gloss base and an airbrushed finish; protect the sponsor decals and markings with a clear coat. Glue working elements such as the front and rear suspension, the steering damper and the rotating shaft drive with care, so that they stay movable. Use thin modeling cement on the plastic and join the metal and photo-etched parts with super glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
