It is the coarser of the load-bearing sizes in the range, so it suits joints that transmit weight: an axle under a larger model, a pin in the arm of a robot figure, a strut between a model and a display stand or the internal core of an element that would sag in plastic.
Brass is considerably stiffer in bending than plastic and does not go brittle in time. The bar is solid, not tubular, so it carries across its whole section. The metal can be painted without problems; the surface just needs degreasing and priming with a product that adheres well to metal.
The set is aimed at builders of large models, dioramas and conversions, and also at repairs of broken parts where a plastic joint will not hold a second time. For fine details such as aerials or handrails reach for the thinner diameters in the same range.
Protect your eyes when shortening metal, as the flying end carries considerable speed. Wipe brass filings from sanding away with a damp cloth; dry ones blow across the whole bench and then make unsightly specks in the paint.
