EVA foam (ethylene-vinyl acetate) from the Spanish brand Green Stuff World in black. It is not a kit but a material from which wearable armor, helmets, fantasy weapons and costume accessories are made. The manufacturer gives one sheet measuring 500 x 950 mm, a thickness of 2 mm, a hardness of 35 Shore A, a density of 140 kg per cubic meter and a smooth surface on both sides.

Use

• it is cut with a sharp knife, sanded, glued and can be painted
• it is shaped with heat, best with a heat gun, and holds the shape once it cools
• a thickness of 2 mm suits details, straps and overlay layers, not a load-bearing structure
• the medium density version is, according to the manufacturer, the most used category in cosplay

Working and safety tips

EVA foam is porous, so seal the surface before painting — typically with a coat of flexible filler or contact cement thinned according to the instructions — otherwise the paint soaks in and the area stays uneven. Use flexible paints so that they do not crack when the piece is worn. When shaping with heat, work in a ventilated room, do not touch the material or the tools with a bare hand, and do not aim the heat gun at one spot for long.
