Tamiya LP-1 Black is a gloss black modeling paint, not a kit. It belongs to the LP range (Tamiya Color Lacquer Paint), which are lacquer paints. The bottle holds 10 ml. For this range the manufacturer states very fast drying and a durable, hard film that takes an enamel overcoat, which is why LP also works as an underlying coat.
Tamiya sells three chemically different paint families side by side and they must not be mixed up: the X and XF acrylics are thinned with X-20A, the enamels with X-20 (without the letter A) and the LP lacquers with LP-10 Lacquer Thinner. LP-1 is a lacquer, so do not use X-20A or X-20 with it. A lacquer is also more aggressive to plastic than an acrylic: apply it in thin coats, because a heavy wet coat can attack the surface of the plastic. Spraying over a primer is ideal. A lacquer must not go over enamel or acrylic unless those coats are perfectly cured and protected, because the solvent will otherwise dissolve them.
For modelers who want an extremely smooth and hard surface, typically on car bodies, motorcycles and anywhere a perfect gloss and a solid base are needed. The lacquer range is popular above all with the airbrush. Beginners are better off starting with an acrylic and moving to lacquers once they have thin coats and a ventilated bench under control.
A flammable liquid with strong fumes. Use only in a well ventilated space, with a respirator fitted for organic vapors, away from open flame and out of reach of children. Close the bottle carefully after use.
