Titanium gold is not the brilliant gold of a fairy tale. It is a darker tone shifted toward gray and bronze, the kind given by a surface treatment of metal rather than by gilding. That is exactly why it is more usable on a model than a rich gold: it suits nozzles, exhaust pipes, worn hardware and parts that are meant to look metallic but not ceremonial.
The MKS line from DSPIAE builds on very fine metallic particles and on a binder that levels itself out once applied. A stroke therefore does not stay visible and the face reflects light continuously. The marker pen has two tips: a thin one 0.5 mm wide for lines and edges, a wider one 2.0 mm wide for an area. The spare tip is kept in the cap and is changed by simply pulling it out.
It will be appreciated by builders of robot kits, figure painters and builders of military subjects who need a metallic detail without mixing paint. For large areas the marker pen does not suit; spraying gives a more even result there.
The titanium tone takes subsequent dirtying well: a light brown or black wash shifts it toward worn metal without the luster being lost. On exhaust parts it is therefore often used as a base on which the heat tints are only then laid.
Always put the cap back on after work, otherwise the tip dries out. Work in a ventilated room.
