A photo-etched detail set for building up the fuselage bomb bay of a model of the American Douglas A-26C Invader attack aircraft in 1:32 scale. This is not an aircraft model but an accessory that is fitted into a plastic kit and replaces its simplified parts with fine metal ones. The exact make-up of the package is not stated here.
The Douglas A-26 Invader was a twin-engined attack and light bomber aircraft with a crew of three. The A-26C version was recognizable by its glazed nose with a bombardier's station, whereas the A-26B version had a solid nose fitted with machine guns. Both versions carried their ordnance in a fuselage bomb bay with hinged doors. In 1:32 scale the bomb bay is large and impossible to miss on a model with the doors open, so it is worth investing time in it.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel on a hard surface, not by twisting. Make the bends in a bender, so that they stay sharp and parallel. Degrease the metal first and cover it with a primer, or the paint will flake off during handling. For gluing, use cyanoacrylate applied with a wooden stick or a thin wire in tiny drops, and slow epoxy on larger surfaces. A proven approach is to paint the whole bomb bay space before fitting the small parts, add a dark wash into the corners and pick out the edges lightly with a dry brush.
