Hollow square-section profiles of ABS plastic with a 5 mm side and a length of 250 mm. Five millimeters is a size that already carries a load: it suits load-bearing parts of a structure, posts and frames, where a thinner profile would give way. At the same time the bore keeps the weight down and lets you run a wire through the profile or push a thinner tube inside it to reinforce a joint.
ABS cuts and sands well. Shorten the profile with a fine-toothed saw and true the cut up with a file so that the parts seat against each other; on a hollow profile scoring and snapping does not work. It is bonded with super glue or with an adhesive intended for ABS; with ordinary polystyrene cement do not count on the same effect, because that one works by dissolving styrene. Build the frame up dry first and only then glue it, otherwise small inaccuracies add up into a crooked structure. Degrease the surface and apply primer before painting.
