Prussian Green is a dark tone in which the blue can be heard. That sets it apart from the olive and khaki greens, which are closer to brown. It finds use on machinery and gun carriages, on the dark cloth of uniforms, on tarpaulins and leather items of equipment, and anywhere the green should be serious and cool. Miniature painters use it as a shadow under lighter green top layers.
It dries flat and covers even over a light base, so it can be applied straight onto the primer without an intermediate coat. Thinning with water or with a medium turns it into a glaze that can be drawn down into recesses to gain depth without visible transitions.
The density is set for brush work. For spraying, the shade is thinned with acrylic thinner, which lets the pigment float and does not clog the nozzle. The dropper insert in the neck measures out a single drop, which is useful precisely with dark tones, of which little goes into a mix.
Inside the bottle is a metal mixing ball. With deeply pigmented dark colors mixing matters all the more, because settled pigment changes the shade noticeably sooner than in light tones. The cap sits tightly and the contents do not dry out.
A whole group of greens is available within the same palette, so a transition from near black to bright grass green can be built and the light played out across a surface. Anyone building up in layers will appreciate that this tone can be covered by a lighter green without showing through, and that under metallic shades the silver looks cooler.
