Tropical Turquoise sits exactly on the border between the blue and the green part of the range and is one of the few shades with a firmly fixed, irreplaceable use in modeling. Copper and bronze turn green in the air and the patina that arises has exactly this bluish tone. Without it a statue on a square, the roofing of a historical building, ship fittings, a bell or an old pipe run cannot be rendered believably.
The procedure has its rules. Verdigris never covers a whole surface evenly; it settles in recesses, in joints and under edges where water runs. Raised and touched places, by contrast, stay purely metallic. It is therefore applied thinly and deliberately into the shadows, not over an area, otherwise the result looks like green paint instead of corrosion.
The second great casting is the water scenes of warm seas, where turquoise describes a shallow over a light sandy bottom. It also finds use on gemstones, on turquoise enamels and jewelry, on tropical vegetation and on parts of clothing where it is to be visible that the cloth is dyed and not natural. With a pinch of white a glacier blue arises from it. For areas of great extent an airbrush is more comfortable, because turquoise pigments tend to be translucent in a thin layer.
