About product

Acrylic Color Ultramar Blue - a saturated blue for an army

Ultramar Blue is a saturated blue with an ultramarine pitch from the Acrylic Color figure line from Green Stuff World. It is among the shades that are painted on dozens of figures at once, because as a rule they hold the color identity of a whole unit. The paint is an acrylic, it thins with water and it mixes with other acrylics. The name is a fanciful name for a shade and no licensing or gaming connection follows from it.

How to tie a whole army together with it

  • The base is crucial. A saturated blue behaves differently over a light primer than over a black one, so choose one primer and use it on the whole army, or the shade will drift between batches.
  • Apply thin coats and let them dry. Thinned paint in two passes is quicker than one thick coat that floods the detail.
  • Do the highlights by one rule for every figure: the same tone, the same places. The unit then reads as a whole even when the time spent per piece varies.
  • It thins with water or with an acrylic thinner, and lacquer thinner does not belong in an acrylic.
  • Shake before taking paint out and close the bottle immediately after the work.

Who the color is for

For a player who paints an army in blue and needs to repeat the shade even a year later when extending a collection, and for a painter who derives their own shadows and highlights from a saturated blue. It also suits gaming accessories and bases.

A water-thinnable acrylic. Store out of reach of children, ventilate during longer work and close the bottle carefully after use.

FAQ

Most often a different base is to blame. A saturated blue looks one way over a light primer and another way over a black one, so choose one primer for the whole army.

No. It is a fanciful name for a color, and you should draw no licensing or gaming connection from it.

Water or an acrylic thinner. Lacquer and cellulose thinners will damage an acrylic.

Go over finished figures with a protective varnish. Without one, acrylic rubs off on edges and bases.
