About product

AMMO of Mig Jimenez Acrylic Filter Dark Blue

A filter is a weathering product that shifts the tone of a whole surface, not of a single detail. That is how it differs from a wash: a wash runs into the recesses and brings out the engraved lines, whereas a filter lies over the whole surface and changes its overall cast. This one has a dark blue shade and is used where you want to knock a surface back and move it toward the cool side: on gray and blue-gray finishes, on dark camouflage areas or to pull together panels that look mismatched after being shaded individually.

Laying it on and wiping it back

  • Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly before use, because the pigment settles at the bottom and an unstirred filter will color the surface unevenly
  • Take a small amount onto a soft flat brush and keep as little of it on the brush as you can; an overloaded brush makes a puddle that dries with a visible edge
  • Draw the strokes in the direction of the airflow or lengthwise along the fuselage, not across, because the direction of the strokes stays visible in the dried coat
  • Before the filter dries completely, go over the surface with a clean, slightly damp brush or cloth and wipe the surplus away; it is this step that decides whether the effect looks subtle or like oversprayed paint
  • Always wipe from the center of the panel out to the edges, so that the tone gathers by the engraved lines and the surface gains depth

Who it is for

For modelers who already have basic painting in hand and want to move a model on from a flat, uniform finish toward a livelier surface. A filter is at the same time the mildest weathering step, so it also suits anyone who is wary of heavier weathering: if the result does not come off, another coat goes over it and the intensity is adjusted.

Keep out of the reach of children. Work in a ventilated room, avoid contact with the eyes and wash your hands after work. Close the bottle well after use so that the product does not thicken.

FAQ

A filter shifts the tone of a whole surface, while a wash runs into the recesses and brings out the engraved lines. They are two different steps, not a substitute for one another.

While the coat has not yet dried completely. Once it is fully dry, the shade can only be adjusted with another coat or by respraying.

The pigment sinks to the bottom of the liquid. Without stirring you will lay on either too weak or, the other way round, an oversaturated medium.

The volume is not given in the product name. Please check it directly on the label of the bottle.
