A plastic kit of the Aegis Gundam mobile suit from the Japanese maker Bandai. It is built on the snap-fit system: the plastic is already colored in the material itself and the individual parts clip into one another, so you need neither glue nor paints for the build. Nippers and a sharp knife will do. The grade of the range, which determines the complexity of the build and the level of refinement, is usually stated on the box, so check it before buying, because Bandai issues the same subject in several grades side by side.
The Aegis Gundam is one of the mobile suits from the world of Gundam SEED. It is marked by a slender build and by four large movable arms along the sides of the body, which give it an unmistakable silhouette and, in the story, let it change into its flight form. Its colors come from a combination of red and gray, which is one of the reasons it is among the popular subjects: on a shelf it can be recognized at first glance.
Separate the parts with nippers a little way from the edge and only then trim the remaining sprue nub with a knife and sand it with fine abrasive paper. On colored plastic, a roughly broken-off sprue gate shows as a white lightening of the surface. Anyone who wants to can paint the model anyway, as the pre-coloring is no obstacle. Degrease the surface, spray it with primer and paint with an airbrush or a brush. Even without an overall repaint, the result is much improved by lining the panel lines with thinned paint or a panel liner, a light wash into the recesses and a final clear coat. A matte one evens out the sheen of the various sprues, a satin one is a good compromise and a gloss one prepares the base for decals.
