An airbrush stencil with a wood pattern measuring 60 x 40 mm for 1:48 and 1:32 scales. It serves for spraying a fine structure of growth rings.

A wood structure is hard to paint by hand: the lines tend to be thick and irregular and they stand out even more under varnish. A stencil solves exactly that. You lay it on a painted area, spray over it with a darker shade and a fine pattern of growth rings is left on the model that you cannot manage with a brush. The working area of 60 x 40 mm matches smaller parts, so on larger areas the pattern has to be laid side by side.
It comes into its own on decks and boarding, on the wooden floors of cabins, on the stocks of weapons, on crates, barrels and scenic accessories. The size is tied to the 1:48 and 1:32 scales; in a larger scale the pattern would look too fine and in a smaller one too coarse.
First spray the light base shade of the wood and let it dry thoroughly. Then lay the stencil as close as possible against the surface, and on curved areas hold it with a finger or tack it lightly so that paint does not get underneath from the side. Spray perpendicularly, at low pressure and only in misted coats, as otherwise the pattern merges together. Choose a shade only a little darker than the base, because credibility comes only from several light passes. When you are done, clean the stencil so that dried paint does not clog the cut-outs.
Paints, an airbrush and a model are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
