About product

Albion Alloys – sanding sticks (coarse gray), price per piece

A sanding stick from the British brand Albion Alloys with a coarse grit, which you recognize in the range by its gray color. The abrasive is applied to a thin flexible core, so the stick sits comfortably between your fingers, follows the shape of a surface slightly and reaches places that neither a sanding block nor folded abrasive paper can. The sticks are sold individually – the unit of sale is one piece, so you can buy exactly the grit and the number you need and replace worn pieces as you go.

Use

  • Removing plastic flash and sprue gate remnants after nipping a part off the sprue.
  • Sanding down casting blocks and pour stubs on resin and 3D-printed parts.
  • Coarse leveling of glued joints and mold seams, sanding putty back on keels, fuselages and hulls.
  • Fast material removal where fine paper merely slides over the surface.
  • The first step of the coarse to fine routine: the gray stick levels the shape, and a fine (white) one then smooths the sanding marks away.

How to go about it

Sand with short strokes in one direction and keep checking the shape of the part – a coarse abrasive removes material fast and it is easy to sand away a detail you meant to keep. On thin-walled parts, press less and sand longer. After coarse sanding always follow with a finer grit, otherwise scratches will remain that show under a finish and especially under gloss. A dusty stick only needs tapping out or rinsing and drying, which markedly extends its life.

Who it is for

  • Modelers building plastic kits who deal with seams and flash.
  • Builders of resin and 3D-printed kits (cutting off and leveling casting blocks).
  • Anyone who wants a surface perfectly prepared before filling and a primer coat.

When sanding resin and putty, work with respiratory protection and in a well-ventilated area; dry sanding creates fine dust.

FAQ

The unit of sale is one piece. The sticks are sold individually, so you can order exactly the number you need.

The gray one has a coarser abrasive and removes material fast – it suits flash, casting blocks and coarse leveling. The white one is fine and serves for smoothing, intermediate sanding and preparing a surface for a primer. Using them in that order is ideal.

Yes, a coarse stick copes with plastic, resin and softer metals and brass. On resin, work with respiratory protection, as the dust is very fine.

Its life depends on how hard you press and what material you are sanding. Keep clearing the dust from the stick (by tapping it out or rinsing and drying it), which clogs the abrasive less and makes it last longer.
