Four acrylic shades for the Spanish AV-8S Matador carrier aircraft: white, a cool gray and two aviation grays to the American standard. Bottles of 17 ml, at a consistency ready for an airbrush.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation AV-8S was carried by the vertical take-off aircraft the Spanish Navy acquired in the middle of the 1970s for the deck of the ship Dédalo. Under the nickname Matador they served with Escuadrilla 008, later moved to the new carrier Príncipe de Asturias, and their career ended in 1996; the used airframes were then bought by Thailand and finished their flying with the navy of that country.
The shades in the package cover the appearance of these machines from their delivery to the last years of service. A light gull gray over a white underside matches the original finish of the late 1970s, while the cool gray and the medium gray tone to the FS 36270 standard match the later overall gray scheme with the contrast of the national insignia toned down.
The contents are acrylic paints with a water-thinnable binder, each in a bottle of 17 ml. The consistency is set for an airbrush; once thinned with the thinner of the same brand it can also lay down narrow soft-edged transitions with no hard boundaries. Brushing works as well, only it is better to choose thinner coats and let each one dry properly.
A practical note for the build: spray the white underside first and only after masking it move on to the gray above. On this subject the canopy, the engine intakes and the areas around the nozzles stayed markedly darker and more worn, so it pays to deal with them separately once the camouflage is finished.
The finish of the paints is semi-matte. Under decals it helps to lay down gloss varnish, and at the end the whole build is evened out with a matte coat so that the difference in sheen between the individual shades disappears.
