The starting flesh shade from the range of dense acrylic paints that AK interactive prepared for painting figures. The paste is held in a metal tube of 20 ml. The manufacturer builds the range on exceptionally fine pigments that give saturated and at the same time well covering tones that dry matte. It is precisely the matte surface that matters with flesh, because gloss gives away every unevenness in the modeling of a face at once.

Flesh on figures step by step

• The base coat of the face, the neck, the hands and all exposed parts of the body.
• A middle tone from which, by mixing in a lighter color, the highlights of the cheekbones and the forehead are built.
• A base under the glazes that give flesh warmth and color in the cheeks.
• Mixing with a saturated red for lips, ears and grazed places on the skin.

How to work with the shade

Flesh is painted in thin layers, so squeeze out only a small amount and work it up on a palette. Let the previous coat set before you lay the next, so that the transition does not smear. A face in a small scale looks credible when the transitions are carried softly and the boundary between light and shadow is nowhere sharp. On a dark base a flesh tone calls for patience and more repetitions than on a light one.
