Blinking light-emitting diodes 2 mm in diameter in a cool white shade. They suit everywhere a light is meant to draw attention intermittently: beacons on vehicles and aircraft, warning lights on a construction site, bringing a scene in a diorama to life or lighting sci-fi mock-ups. With blinking diodes the interruption of the light is taken care of by the diode itself, so you do not have to worry about the rhythm.
A diameter of 2 mm means a hole drilled to an exact fit and almost no room to spare, so lay the place out before you close the model up. Observe the polarity, because a diode lights only in one direction. Lead the leads so that they do not break at a bend, and insulate the joints. The power supply, the recommended voltage and whether a series resistor is needed are governed by the maker's data; design the circuit according to them.
Light shines through the thin walls of a model even where it is not meant to. Paint the inside of the fuselage or the body with dark paint from within, best of all in two coats. If you want a softer and less point-like light, sand the lens of the diode lightly with fine sandpaper. Try the placing dry before gluing, because once the model has been closed you will not get at the diode any more.
A power source, wires, a switch and further electrical components are not part of the supply, unless stated otherwise.
